María Cáceres – Currently, SENAVE is the sole agency responsible for the evaluation and approval of product registrations in Paraguay. Evaluation timelines may vary depending on the product type and the complexity of the process, with an estimated duration of 6 to 15 months.
AgriBrasilis – What are the costs to obtain and maintain the registration?
María Cáceres – The approximate cost to obtain the registration is US$ 2,500, covering government fees. Additionally, the annual maintenance cost is approximately US$ 395.
AgriBrasilis – Is the submission of efficacy and residue data mandatory? If so, can these studies be conducted abroad?
María Cáceres – The presentation of technical information depends on the product’s history of use in Paraguay. For certain registration categories, studies conducted within the COSAVE region may be accepted. In the case of chemical products, local trials are required, depending on the product’s history of use in the country.

María Cáceres – To obtain product registration in Paraguay, companies must have legal representation in the country, that is, they must have an entity incorporated in Paraguay and registered with SENAVE in the appropriate categories, based on the activities to be carried out.
AgriBrasilis – Is information regarding the registration and approval processes publicly accessible?
María Cáceres – SENAVE’s regulations and requirements can be accessed via its website, as can the list of current registrations. However, it is currently not possible to publicly access applications undergoing the registration process or to track the detailed progress of each request.

María Cáceres – New evaluation procedures for innovative products and technologies are currently being developed. No significant changes to current regulations are foreseen, although adjustments may be made to improve and adapt the evaluation processes.
