  • União Brasileira de Viticultura (Brazilian Grape Growers Association) and 10 other associations request the “suspension of use and application of hormonal herbicides with 2-4-D in Rio Grande do Sul State until a use exclusion zone is established or a safe and effective system is implemented, with full monitoring and inspection of its use and application. 2,4-D is widely used in soybeans, but grape growers in Rio Grande do Sul State have suffered from drift occurrences, which damage grapevines.   • French agricultural research and registration company Staphyt acquires Promip’s services division, entering the local market of agronomic research and development services for third parties. Promip will focus on production and distribution of biological pesticides, used in integrated pest management (Promip)
  • Fertilizer prices decrease grain sales margins. In soybean cultivation, fertilizer prices increased 16% in the State of Mato Grosso, between October 2021 and June 2022. In the case of corn, increase was of 33% in the same period, with the grain devaluing by 9%. (StoneX Consultoria)
  • Waiting time for ships carrying fertilizers reaches 45 days in the State of Paraná on the eve of the start of planting for the 2022/23 season. In March and April 2021, waiting time for ships was just between seven and 11 days. (StoneX Consulting)
  • In compliance with court decision, Anvisa approves evaluation of diquat dibromide and aluminum phosphide (Syncrom) and indoxacarb 300 g/kg WG (Cropchem). (Anvisa)
  • Inspectors from Ministry of Agriculture in Paranaguá, Brazil’s main importing port, collected 26 samples of products for analysis and seized 350 tonnes of fertilizers. Eight companies were provisionally embargoed. (Mapa)
  • Pesticide Bill 1459/2022, which changes pesticide legislation, shall be voted this week, until July 15th, by definition of the chairman of the Agriculture Committee, Senator Acir Gurgacz. (CRA)
  • Potassium chloride imports from Canada hit a record in the first half of 2022, totaling 2.291 million tonnes between January and June, an annual increase of 71.2%. Fertilizer imports in general increased by 13% in the period. (Agrinvest Commodities)
  • Federal Revenue Agency seizes 20,000 L of paraquat and 19,000 L of endosulfan, hidden in aluminum sulfate cargo in the Port of Itapoá, State of Santa Catarina. Value of the seizure is approximately US$ 800 thousand. (Federal Revenue of Brazil)
  • More than 30 entities join against suspension of the fungicide carbendazim and ask that product’s use be allowed during revaluation by Anvisa. (Glauber Silveira, president of  the Soybean Sector Chamber)
  • Conterfeit agricultural products seized in the State of Rio Grande do Sul. Approximately 36 tonnes of illegal items were seized, including 320 kg and 188 bottles of pesticides banned in Brazil and 2,250 kg of irregular fertilizers. (Integrated Border Protection Program)
