24 Countries Have Suspended Chicken Imports From Brazil

Argentina is close to finalize an agreement to export beef offal to China, with technical details being finalized and a visit by Chinese officials scheduled for June 8th. Currently, the country exports about 30% of its beef, with two-thirds to China. (Argentine Beef Promotion Agency)

Cold and dry weather should speed up soybean harvest, which has been delayed by heavy rainfall, while in the South, excessive rainfall, with up to 95% of the annual average accumulated, has compromised the first harvest, causing losses of 10% to 30% and delaying wheat planting; cold air should help dry the fields, despite the risk of frost in some areas. Calice, an Argentine agtech, raised US$ 2.5 million in a round led by Astanor, aiming to expand the digitization of agricultural trials and advance in the US and Brazil. The company focuses on the Brazilian market, especially seeds and agribusinesses, to optimize R&D programs, reduce costs, and increase efficiency with technology based on artificial intelligence and data science. Avian flu outbreak in the State of Rio Grande do Sul with 17,000 birds culled. According to the MoA, the outbreak in Montenegro,  in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, is under control. 24 countries have suspended chicken imports from Brazil; 13 have restricted imports from the State or the City only; 120 have kept their markets open. Cooperatives Cotrijal, Cotripal, and Cotrisal are investing US$ 221 million in the construction of the Soli3 industrial plant in Cruz Alta, in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, with a capacity to process 1 million tonnes of soybeans/year starting in 2028, producing biodiesel, degummed oil, glycerin, soybean meal, and pelleted hulls; the project, financed by BNDES, is expected to generate an annual revenue of US$ 389 million. Ministry of Agriculture launched the Solo Vivo Program in the State of Mato Grosso with an initial investment of US$ 7.56 million to recover degraded areas and strengthen family farming, benefiting 800 to 1,000 families in settlements. The Federal Institute of Education, Science, and Technology of the State of Mato Grosso is responsible for soil analysis and diagnostics, while  Federation of Agricultural Workers of the State of Mato Grosso manages the project. Chilean startup ByBug has developed an oral vaccine against avian influenza using genetically modified black soldier fly larvae. The company, supported by the Science and Life Foundation of the University of San Sebastián, is in the experimental phase with pilot projects in poultry farming, has already raised US$1.4 million, and is seeking internationalization. Heavy rainfall affects the 25/26 coffee harvest, reducing washed Arabica production to 12.4 million bags, a 0.7% drop compared to 24/25, with exports expected to reach 13.1 million bags, 4.6% lower according to Hedgepoint; the USDA projects a 5.6% drop in the harvest to 12.5 million bags and exports at 11.8 million. Singapore has opened its market to import beef, pork and poultry from Paraguay after almost five years of negotiations. As result, pork production is projected to increase by up to 25% by 2025. (Paraguayan Pig Breeders Association; National Animal Health and Quality Service)

654,151 tonnes of soybean were exported in April and 2,865,911 tonnes by April 2025, down 16.2% from 2024, despite improved navigability on the Paraguay River. The reduction is due to lower production in the 2024/25 harvest and a 23% drop in international prices. Grain exports generated US$ 1.054 billion, a 26% drop. Argentina is the main market (83%), followed by Brazil (5%) and Russia; exports to Peru and South Korea have resumed. Cargill leads exports with 14%. Ministry of Agrarian Development and Irrigation has launched pilot programs to export sustainable coffee and cocoa in accordance with the European Union Regulation on Deforestation, with technical visits to farmers in various regions to collect data and test traceability; more than 45 tonnes of each product are expected to be exported starting in June 2025. Soybean and rice exports through the Montevideo Grain Terminal (TGM) will be extended until October or November due to the record volume of the summer harvest, with more than 780,000 tonnes shipped, according to Agustín Idoyaga, general manager of TGM. (TGM)
