According to the Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro, Brazil must follow its own environmental rules, not EU legislation. European Union started to demand that certain agricultural products, such as coffee, should not come from deforested areas and that they should come from recognized lands. This has raised concern among Peruvian coffee farmers. According to the National Coffee Council, 80% of coffee farms in the country do not have a property title.
