Federal Regional Court of the 4th Region ruled the suspension of aerial spraying of pesticides at Fazenda Ema, a property neighboring the Lagoa do Junco Settlement, in Porto Alegre, State of Rio Grande do Sul. According to a decision by Judge Maria Isabel Klein, the Federal Government must present within 30 days the result of investigations about pesticide drift that affected families of farmers in the region. Among pesticides found are glyphosate and clomazone. Grupo OCQ announced acquisition of petrochemical company Elekeiroz, controlled by H.I.G Capital. OCQ plans to start operating in the fertilizer sector through the production of sulfuric acid by Elekeiroz. “As 80% of Brazilian fertilizers are imported, this decision opens an important door for OCQ”, said Francisco Fortunato, founding partner of Grupo OCQ. Inspectors from the Agricultural Development Company of Sergipe – Emdagro seized 3,360 L of the herbicide 2,4-D. Vehicle with contraband was intercepted at the checkpoint in Propriá, State of Sergipe. Product came from the State of Alagoas and was intended for direct sale in an illegal establishment. (Emdagro)

University of São Paulo develops a paper sensor that measures fungicide carbendazim in food in real time. “Paper was chosen because it is a cheap material, available and easy to work with, in addition to being environmentally friendly”, says Osvaldo Novais de Oliveira Junior, a professor at the Institute of Physics of São Carlos. (IFSC – USP)

Ihara will focus on launching six products with the objective of growing more than 30% in 2023. Two of those new solutions are already approved for use: one is meant for controlling Heteroptera insects in corn and soybean, while the other is focused against Asian rust. State Secretary for Economic Development, Vinicius Farah, said that the supply of natural gas in the region, the production potential of the new plant connected to the Tepor Port Terminal and the reduction from 18% to 2% of the Brazilian Tax on Commerce and Services – ICMS offer Macaé favorable conditions to consolidate the project. Latin America

Adama earned US$ 1.6 billion in Latin America in 2022, representing growth of 25% compared to the previous year. Region was responsible for 42% of the company’s global sales growth in the period. (Adama)

Agricultural and Livestock Service of Chile announces a new application period for prioritization of pesticide registration requests. Prioritization will be given to 10 registration requests, only for pesticides that have already been submitted and that are waiting in the queue for evaluation. Registrant companies can apply for prioritization until May 19th. Decrease in prices of fertilizers and pesticides, associated with good wheat prices, created a favorable exchange ratio for farmers in Argentina. After reaching a price peak in 2022, fertilizers have seen successive price drops. “In March of last year, urea was traded at US$ 1,050/tonne directly from the ports in our country; last week the value recorded was US$ 490-500/tonne,” said Jeremías Battistoni, agricultural market analyst at AZ-Group. According to the analyst, this is a consequence of the normalization of global supply. (A-Z Group)
