Beekeepers from São Sebastião do Paraíso, State of Minas Gerais, denounce the death of more than 850 thousand bees in the region, in at least 10 properties. The farmers allege that the deaths happened because of pesticide poisoning. Tests revealed the presence of glyphosate, chlorpyrifos, permethrin, propanil and trifluralin in the bees. (UEMG)
Minister of Agriculture, Carlos Fávaro, asks for caution for the resumption of discussion about the Pesticide Bill No. 1459/2022. The proposal is ready to be voted by the Senate Plenary. The Bill creates, among other measures, the Temporary Registration and Temporary Authorization for new products, already authorized in three of the 37 OECD countries: USA, France and Japan. Fávaro said that MAPA will work in partnership with Anvisa and Ibama. “Let’s not weaken the legislation, or harm the approval process of new molecules, but rather modernize it… I am sure that when a molecule arrives at the Ministry of Agriculture that has not been approved by Anvisa, you will not find a technician at MAPA who will have the courage to approve it. Likewise for the environmental issue. If Ibama does not approve a new molecule because it will harm the environment, we will certainly not find anyone in the Ministry of Agriculture who will be favorable to this approval…”, said the minister. Port of Vitória will receive approximately US$ 38.61 million in private investments over the next few years to improve its railroad access. In 2020/21, the company held a 42% share in the category. “We have grown twice as fast as the market, mainly because of the effectiveness of baculovirus control of pests that are difficult to manage, such as Helicoverpa and Spodoptera frugiperda,” said Pedro Marcellino, marketing director. According to Marcellino, an important factor was the loss of efficiency of state-of-the-art biotechnologies, used in different GMO seeds, and the increased resistance of caterpillars against conventional insecticides. Recifert will manufacture organic fertilizer using carcasses of animals that were not slaughtered. Those will come from cooperatives and independent livestock farmers in the State of Santa Catarina. Carcasses come from animals that died or were sacrificed because of illness or transport accidents. The Recifert facility will have the capacity to process 100 tonnes of carcasses/day, an amount that currently meets the demand in the State.
