According to Raquel Buenrostro, secretary of economy, the concerns of the USA will be addressed, that demand that the Mexican government must adopt a scientifically based approach to the prohibition of the imports of GMO corn. “In the new drafting proposal, an article was added that determines that the GMO corn will have scientifically based evaluations by Cofepris, that is our sanitary regulatory authority… If Cofepris says that the product does not cause any harm, the product can enter” , said Buenrostro. Minister of Agriculture, Fernando Mattos, and the Chinese ambassador, Wang Gang, visited livestock production, breeding and fattening facilities in the midst of negotiations for China to approve the entry of poultry products from Uruguay. The minister explained that China demands animal protein from the country and maintains a strong presence in the sale of beef and lamb. “We are advancing in this exchange to be able to make the products viable”, he said.
