After January 2023, imports of agri-inputs in the State of Mato Grosso will adopt a tax fee of 2%. According to the State Secretariat of Finance, by 2024 the Tax on Circulation of Goods and Services (ICSM) fee will rise gradually to reach 4%. CNA is in favor of the new legal framework for pesticides, Bill 1459/2022. The bill, under analysis by the Senate, establishes a maximum period of two years for the approval of pesticide registrations and grants the status of registration agency to the Ministry of Agriculture. “It is an extremely necessary legislation. More than 900 tonnes of illegal pesticides were seized by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security in 2022. “Operação Hórus“, of the Border Guards Program, seized 747.2 tonnes of products that entered or left the country irregularly or were counterfeit or prohibited in Brazil. Louis Dreyfus Company (LDC) and Koppert announce an input sales agreement in Brazil. LDC’s goal is for 8% of sales to come from biological inputs by 2027. LDC should also sell using the “green barter” model, a financing mechanism through which debts can be paid in grains and fibers. (LDC; Koppert)

Embrapa Soja (Embrapa Soybean) announced that 25% of the nitrogen fertilizer used for corn can be replaced by inoculants based on Azospirillum brasilense. “This validation, once again, is the result of a close cooperation between public research and private companies. The first inoculant sold in the country was manufactured with strains selected by Embrapa, but the large-scale manufacturing technology was fully developed by companies associated with the ANPII”, said the president of the National Association of Inoculant Manufacturers and Importers, Guilherme de Figueiredo. In the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, farmers paid 22.15% more for a 26.4% smaller amount of fertilizers, between January and November 2022. Total amount was US$ 143.6 million, reaching 202.8 thousand tonnes. In 2012, imports totaled US$ 111.8 million, totaling 269 thousand tonnes. (Semagro)

Fertilizantes Heringer, that has more than 50% of its shares controlled by EuroChem, reported that the parent company will proceed with the public offer for the acquisition of shares proposed in 2022. The multinational suggests paying US$ 3.64 per share to acquire the remaining Heringer shares.
