Brazilian soybean exports to China fell by 15% in October

Country consumes 230 million liters of herbicides and 350 million liters of other agrochemicals per year. There are 5,387 registered formulated products in the National Food Safety and Quality Service. Herbicides are the major group, with 42%, followed by insecticides and fungicides, with 43%. Acaricides, nematicides, molluscicides, growth regulators and other products account for only 14%. Government considers re-establishing a special exchange rate for soybean farmers with the purpose of increasing exports. (Reuters)

Drought and frosts lead to a drop in barley production. Harvest was 4 million tonnes, 200 thousand tonnes less than the previous season. Among the problems are damage to the barley ear tip and interruption of grain development. (Buenos Aires Stock Exchange)

LanAr Plan goes into effect, an economic assistance measure that will benefit ranchers who keep sheep herds of up to 3,500 heads. Contribution will be of US$ 3,64 per shearable sheep head. Total investment is US$ 7.28 million. (Government of Argentina)

Bill 1,459/2022 voting was postponed until November 29th. Bill aims to reduce maximum time for registration of pesticides to two years and to establish the risk analysis, replacing the period of 8 to 10 years and the hazard analysis, respectively. (Senate Agency)

Coopercitrus opened an animal feed factory in Colina, State of São Paulo, that has a production capacity of 40 tonnes/hour, with an investment of US$ 2.78 million. (Coopercitrus)

Casa dos Ventos and Mosaic announce an agreement for wind power generation in the Northeast. Initiative aims to “decarbonize” Mosaic’s energy consumption in Brazil. Agreement provides for the supply of 30 average megawatts of energy, generated at the Umari Wind Complex, in the State of Rio Grande do Norte, starting in 2026. Contract term period is 14 years. Sicredi made available more than US$ 1.07 billion for family farming in the 1Q of the 2022/23 Crop Plan through the National Program for Strengthening Family Agriculture. Total credit released by the program was 53% higher compared to the previous year. (Sicredi)

Campaign against foot-and-mouth disease in SP has already vaccinated 2.9 million heads of cattle and buffaloes and is scheduled to end on November 30th. (GEDAVE)

Incidence of Moniliophthora roreri, that causes the Cocoa Moniliasis disease, in the State of Amazonas, near the Colombian and Peruvian border. The disease also affects cupuassu (Theobroma grandiflorum) and causes yield losses and higher costs. MAPA must adopt contingency measures together with Plant Health and research institutions. MAPA sends a task force to the State of Amazonas to prevent fusariosis (Fusarium oxysporum) from entering the country. Fungus has high destructive potential, affecting banana trees that produce varieties Nanica, Terra, Prata and Maçã. Disease is already present in Colombia and Peru. (MAPA)

Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock supplied 450 bags of urea with a 50% subsidy, to small and medium-sized farmers in the Paute region, in order to reduce the impacts of fertilizer price increases in the world. (Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock)

Senasica authorizes beef import from 22 processing facilities in Argentina, after 8 years of negotiations. In July, an audit was done where Senasica’s inspectors verified that the Argentine control system complies with the sanitary and food safety standards required by Mexico. Country allows pork imports from Brazil to help fight inflation. The only authorized state so far is Santa Catarina, the only one recognized by the WHOA as free from foot-and-mouth disease without vaccination in Brazil. (MAPA)

Hazera launched tomato varieties resistant to the brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV). Virus affects trade, as it reduces yields and causes coloring problems and brown spots in the fruit. (Hazera)



At least one thousand extra hectares of blueberries will be sown in 2022, reaching 17,943 hectares. 20 thousand hectares are expected in the next three years. (Terra Business)

High prices contribute to the food crisis in the country. Potatoes and chicken are the main affected products. Annual inflation rate reaches more than 8%. Peru has the highest rates of food insecurity in Latin America. (FAO)

China signs a protocol on phytosanitary requirements to enable Uruguayan sorghum imports. China is the world’s largest importer of this cereal. (MGAP)

Brazilian meatpacker Minerva SA is negotiating the acquisition of the Japanese company Breeders & Packers Uruguay (BPU). Deal should be closed before December 15th. The BPU is responsible for slaughtering approximately one thousand heads of cattle a day. Upon completion of the acquisition, Minerva will expand its slaughtering capacity by 40% in Uruguay. The country already has three slaughtering facilities, with a combined capacity to slaughter 2,500 heads per day.
