Banco do Brasil announces first  project contracts of carbon credit. Approximately 290,000 credits are expected to be generated annually. According to Fausto Ribeiro, president of Banco do Brasil, “from analyses on 80 properties across the country, our technical teams mapped about 500 thousand hectares of land that can be enabled for the Carbon Market. The presence of caterpillar hybrids of Helicoverpa was confirmed in Brazil. Samples of the caterpillars H. armigera and H. zea, collected in the State of Mato Grosso and analyzed by researchers from UK and Australia, through complete genome sequencing, confirm hybridization. Use of different integrated management tactics should be adopted. It is not yet possible to determine the impact of hybrid caterpillars in Brazilian agriculture, but there is great potential for damage, as well as the evolution of resistance to different chemical insecticides. Announced creation of Florida Desert National Park, located 30 km south of Copiacó and 85 km north of Vallenar. Objective is to protect biodiversity and the famous local flowering. “The flowering desert is a heritage of biodiversity and an incredible natural spectacle, that put at risk every time someone cuts a flower, steps on it or drives through this territory. USA may appeal to the USMCA trade agreement to challenge Mexican policies on banning GMO corn, according to US Agriculture Secretary, Tom Vilsack. Mexican government officials, including Agriculture Minister Víctor Villalobos, have indicated that imports of yellow corn for animal feed will not be affected by the GMO ban. Low temperatures caused by La Niña put the 2022/23 mango harvest at risk, causing abortion or downfall of fruits. The Peruvian Association of Mango Exporters had warned of the possible negative effects of the cold season, indicating that there would be a lot of flowering on the trees, but also a lot of fruit loss caused by the temperature of 15 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal levels. Regulation 672/022, published in June, was modified again, changing the registration for agrochemical applications. The update determines that individuals or legal entities that apply agrochemicals in their own farms, using land equipment with tanks greater than or equal to 1,000 L and/or aerial equipment, must register in the Single Operators Registry.
