Registrations
An analysis of the open database from Ministry of Agriculture of Brazil (MAPA), is possible to identify 9,908 distinct fertilizer registrations dated 2026 through September 30, related to 909 corporate taxpayer registrations. Of this total, 8,632 are mineral fertilizers and 1,276 are organic fertilizers.
The figure was only 1.9% lower than the 10,096 registrations dated between January and September 2025, indicating fertilizer registration activity remained at a high level. However, these registrations do not necessarily correspond to new commercial product launches.
MAPA itself states that fertilizer registration applications that are not legally required to submit research demonstrating agronomic efficacy may be automatically approved, provided that all regulatory requirements are met.
Among the registration holders with the largest number of registrations dated 2026 are Agro Industrial São Luiz, with 343; Fertilizantes Tocantins, with 323; Fertilizantes Heringer, with 316; Unifertil, with 186; Equilíbrio Fertilizantes São Paulo, with 181; and Mosaic, with 177.
Considering the entire stock of active registrations contained in the analyzed database, rather than only registrations dated 2026, the survey identified 111,403 active mineral and/or organic fertilizer registrations.
When branches belonging to the same corporate group are consolidated using the root of their Brazilian corporate taxpayer registration number, Fertilizantes Heringer has the largest number of active registrations.

The concentration is even greater when registrations are analyzed by fertilizer type. Mixed mineral fertilizers account for 77,393 registrations, or 69.5% of the entire active registration stock analyzed.
Among the registrations approved in 2026, mixed mineral fertilizers account for 7,137 registrations, equivalent to 72.0% of the total.

Market
Between January and August 2026, Brazilian fertilizer imports totaled 25.38 million tonnes, down 13.7% from the same period of 2025.In August, imports reached 2.97 million tonnes, a 43.2% year-on-year decline, while the average import price increased 12.8% to US$ 403.20/t.
Changes in the composition of the Brazilian fertilizer market also deserve attention. At the beginning of 2026, Mosaic said the Brazilian market had come under pressure in late 2025 due to tighter credit conditions and the entry of lower-concentration Chinese phosphate fertilizers, which intensified competition among suppliers.
Another relevant factor was the sharp increase in sulfur prices. Sulfur is an important raw material in the production of phosphate fertilizers.
In January, Mosaic extended the suspension of single superphosphate production at its Fospar and Araxá facilities, specifically citing the sharp increase in sulfur prices.
Regulation
Brazil also introduced an important regulatory change in 2026. Decree No. 12858/2026, published in February, amended the regulations under Brazil’s Fertilizer Law to bring them into line with the country’s Self-Control Law. The decree established rules for company self-control programs covering the safety, identity, quality and traceability of agricultural inputs.
It also provides for a single establishment registration for companies conducting more than one activity or operating in more than one regulated category, subject to supplementary regulations to be issued by MAPA. In addition, products intended for more than one purpose may receive a single registration, under procedures to be defined by the Ministry.
