MAPA updated its guidelines for the registration of new fertilizers, inoculants and soil amendments.
Registration requests are submitted through SIPEAGRO by manufacturers or importers. Products that do not meet existing minimum quality standards but demonstrate viability of use and agronomic efficiency may be registered as “new products”, subject to technical-scientific evidence from an official or MAPA-accredited Brazilian research institution.
For imported new products, MAPA will only consider research conducted in Brazil. Imported samples intended exclusively for research and experimentation are exempt from registration but require prior import authorization.
Physical, chemical and microbiological characterization must follow MAPA’s official analytical methods. When an official method is unsuitable, the company may propose an alternative method. Registration will only be granted after MAPA’s General Coordination of Laboratories (CGAL) evaluates whether the proposed method can be applied.
Research involving new inoculant products must follow the specific protocols available on MAPA’s website. Experimental conditions must also minimize interference from other variables in the results.
The guidelines apply to fertilizers, inoculants and soil amendments and do not cover products intended for phytosanitary control or hormonal plant-growth stimulation, which follow separate pesticide registration rules.
