World’s Largest Biogas Plant Construction Has Begun in Brazil

Louis Dreyfus Company has started construction of the world’s largest biogas plant, made from from citrus waste in Bebedouro, in the State of São Paulo. The aim is to reduce the industrial plant’s CO2 emissions by 20%. (LDC)

Soybean export forecasts have been raised to 15.45 million tonnes in March, an increase of more than 4% when compared to the previous forecast, almost 2 million tonnes more than in March of 2024. The forecast for soybean meal exports was also adjusted to 2.38 million tonnes, up 380,000 tonnes from the previous forecast. (ANEC)

Regional Development Bank of the Extreme South – BRDE has signed a US$ 12.5 million credit deal for Cotrijal at Expodireto 2025, aiming for the expansion of six storage units. Cherry sector lost up to US$ 1.6 billion in 2024/2025 due to falling prices and the delay of the Maersk Saltoro ship. Exports to China amounted to US$ 3.575 billion in 2024, but prices fell to US$ 2.5/kg, down from US$ 5/kg. Chile is looking for new markets, including in the Middle East and Asia. Paraguay is considering exporting live cattle to Morocco, with possible shipments of 2,500 head of cattle through the Port of Montevideo. The country has already exported to Brazil, Argentina and Ecuador. The country is seeking commercial alternatives because of the volatility of the market. Due to the high temperatures and irregular rainfall, farmers in the north of the country are planting alternative crops such as peanuts, sesame, sorghum and cotton, which are considered more resistant and adaptable. (Agricultural Biotechnology Institute)

Winter crops planted area has increased by 24.6% in the 2024 season, with 759,007 hectares, especially wheat, which grew by 33%, and malted barley, which increased by 42%. Intentions to plant summer crops for 2024/25 rose by 3.5% to 1,574,941 hectares, with highlight to soybean (1,263,217 hectares) and corn with an estimated 262,288 hectares.
