JBS has announced a new share buyback program, in a statement to the Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM). According to the company, the buyback plan seeks to “maximize the generation of value for shareholders through efficient management of its capital structure”. Up to 113,396,357 common shares may be repurchased, equivalent to 10% of the company’s capital, with a term of up to 18 months. (JBS)

The Organization of Brazilian Sugarcane Farmers’ Associations has released a new report on the impacts of fires that affected sugarcane farms in several States in the Center-South. Fires in the Amazon rainforest have reached the highest number for September in almost 15 years. Satellites detected 41,463 fires in the Brazilian Amazon in September, the highest number for the period since 2010, according to data from the National Institute for Space Research. Minister of Agriculture said in the 2nd Latin American Green Economy Forum, in São Paulo, Brazil, that both Chile and Latin America are “very delayed” in the use of plant residues for fertilizers and that it is necessary to advance in this area. “A proper [sustainable] transition requires the redirection of resources… and not just rhetoric. Through the Agricultural Sector Financing Fund (Finagro), approximately US$ 12.84 million will be granted to farmers to protect their farms against climate change. The insurance can be purchased through the Agricultural Insurance Incentive, which already has US$ 5.82 million in subsidies. “The inclusion of this new grant aims to correct some of the barriers that small and medium-sized farmers face in accessing incentives”, said Martha Carvajalino, Minister of Agriculture.
