Mexico has reduced glyphosate import quota by 50% for 2023

Goiás State Agricultural Defense Agency seized a truck that collected illegally used pesticide packages in the State. Packages were intended to be reused and/or recycled irregularly and contained residues of pesticides. According to the investigation, the truck carried out collections in cities in the south of the State of Goiás, such as Piracanjuba, Morrinhos and Goiatuba. Material was seized and taken to the packaging receiving unit, located in Morrinhos, State of Goiás. (Agrodefesa)

Mato Grosso was the State that most received fertilizers in 2022, representing 24.4% of the total, reaching 10.02 million tonnes, followed by the States of Goiás (4.63 million), Rio Grande do Sul (4.32 million), Paraná (4.20 million), São Paulo (4.17 million) and Minas Gerais (3.88 million). Agrion, from sugar-ethanol sector, will build in Tupaciguara, State of Minas Gerais, an organomineral fertilizer factory that uses “filter cake” for production. Investment estimated at US$ 4.54 million, will be financed with Agribusiness Receivables Certificates issued by Agrion under the coordination of EQI Investimentos. Factory should manufacture 25 thousand tonnes of organomineral fertilizer per year. (Agrion)

Fertilizantes Heringer stocks fell 23.77%, reaching US$ 2.64 on 04/03, the worst performance among small cap companies, after Eurochem withdrew from the offer of acquisition shares for cancellation of registration and exit from the market, opting for registering only one OPA for sale of control. According to a statement, the decision stems from the excessive delay in completing the registration process and carrying out the acquisition offer, because of questions regarding the appraisal reports, including a report prepared by an institution indicated by the company’s minority shareholders. In addition, the company recorded a decrease in net revenue of 10.02% for the 4Q22, compared to the same period of the previous year. Registered net revenue of US$ 330 million in the 4Q21 and US$ 310 million in the 4Q22. Price drop is encouraging farmers to increase their purchases of fertilizers. Urea prices, for example, have fallen by 56% since September 2022. An acceleration in purchases is expected until May 2023. Located in Cuiabá, State of Mato Grosso, Plastibras is one of five Brazilian companies that transform pesticide packaging returned by agribusiness into corrugated ducts used in civil construction and power plants. Latin America

Nutriterra, a company of liquid fertilizer, will invest US$ 380,000 in the province of Tucumán, in Argentina. According to the governor of the province, Juan Manzur, the investment will be aimed at creating jobs in the region. (Nutriterra)

30,000 tonnes of fertilizers are already in warehouses in Sinaloa, Mexico, to be distributed free of charge to corn farmers in the region. In January was announced the distribution of 170 thousand tonnes to farmers. Fertilizers will be delivered to approximately 27 thousand corn farmers, in a total area of 509,101 hectares. 300 kg of fertilizers/ha will be delivered to each farmer, with a maximum of 3 tonnes per individual. 2,180 kg of expired, in bad condition and banned pesticides were collected in the Mostazal region, in Chile, at an event held by the National Association of Manufacturers and Importers of Agricultural Phytosanitary Products and by the Campo Limpo Program. “…we want to meet the need that farmers and agricultural companies have to correctly manage their expired phytosanitary products and other packaging that cannot go through the triple washing process”, said Patrícia Villarreal, general manager of Afipa and of the Campo Limpo Program. Mexico has reduced glyphosate import quota by 50% for 2023. A maximum of 4,131 tonnes of formulated products and 314 tonnes of technical products can be imported. Quota for 2022 was 8,263 tonnes of formulated glyphosate and 628 tonnes of technical glyphosate, while in 2021 it was 6,526 tonnes and 1,257 tonnes, respectively. Gradual elimination of the use of glyphosate is planned, with a total ban after March 31st, 2024. (Cofepris)

Nitrofert has become the second largest company in the fertilizer business in Colombia. According to the president of the company, Jorge Pacheco, investments of more than US$ 30 million were made in the country. “Colombia is a country with great potential for development in agriculture, but with a soil fertility rate of approximately 300 kg of fertilizer/hectare,” said Pacheco.
