Agroindustries halted their activities in Paraguay in September

Soybean planted area will grow for the first time in seven years, but the scenario is considered unfavorable because of an absence of rain and residual effects of La Niña. Government will meet with wheat mills and exporters because of concerns about the size of the wheat harvest, affected by severe and ongoing drought. Wheat mills are worried about the lack of grain after decrease in production forecasts. (Ciara-CEC)

Hail occurrence in the State of Minas Gerais mainly affected coffee production. Total of 13,000 hectares were harmed, mostly arabica coffee. Paraguaçu, Campanha, Andradas and Coqueiral were the most affected cities. More than 1,090 coffee farmers suffered some type of damage. (Emater – MG)

Use of the specific breeding period for beef cattle has the potential to increase the gross margin of the activity by 31%, according Embrapa Gado de Corte’s researchers. In addition to concentrating the births, weaning operations, vaccinations and deworming, the breeding season usually takes place between October and March, when better quality and amount of forage plants is observed. Nespresso, Nestlé’s coffee brand, announces its first 100% organic and Brazilian coffee. The product will be sold in capsules in Brazil, Germany and Switzerland. Coffee beans are produced on specialized farms, free from the use of chemical inputs. (Nestlé)

For the third year in a row, the weather phenomenon La Niña will influence rainfall. Southern states may be affected once again in the summer agricultural season. According to Estael Sias, meteorologist at MetSul, despite the rains recorded in recent weeks, the tendency is for rainfall to decrease in October, especially in the State of Rio Grande do Sul, where temperatures are expected to be higher and farmers run the risk of having problems already when sowing soybeans. States of Paraná and Santa Catarina can also be impacted by La Niña, but with less intensity. It is expected that the rainfall regime in the States of Mato Grosso do Sul and São Paulo will also be affected, with values below the historical average. (MetSul)

Irrigated area with high technology systems reaches 98,003 hectares in the country, with 2,088 installed equipments. Among those, 1,618 are fixed center pivots, 408 are mobile and 62 are front feeders. First variety of black rice developed in Chile was presented by INIA during Expo Chile Agrícola. Among its nutritional characteristics, the highest fiber and antioxidant content stands out. Chilean salmon and trout exports to Brazil totaled US$ 478 million, an increase of 29.3% compared to 2021. “With the opening of markets after the Covid-19 pandemic, salmon exports went back to pre-pandemic levels. “This recognition of the high and sustained demand for Chilean salmon by our main markets such as Brazil, Japan and the USA is linked to the world trend of consuming healthy and quality proteins”, says Hugo Corales, commercial director of ProChile in Brazil. Agroindustries halted their activities in September and a further drop in processing is expected. Sector faces a serious lack of raw material caused by the fall in production in the harvest. “This month would already be the last with a significant volume of crushing, considering that after the first weeks of September practically all of Cappro’s industries are stopped due to lack of raw material to continue processing”, according to a report by the Paraguayan Chamber of Oilseeds and Cereals (Cappro)

Lavoro, the largest Brazilian retailer of agricultural inputs, announces their entry into the markets of Peru and Chile through the acquisition of NS Agro, a holding of agricultural input retailers operating in both countries, specializing in crop protection, fertilizers, seeds and special products. Value of the deal was not revealed. The group’s revenue in 2021 was approximately US$190 million. (Lavoro; NS Agro)

 

 

New lines of credit were created for the agricultural sector, through an agreement between the General Directorate of Finance and the Republic of Microfinance. Lines of credit offered are for working capital and for investments and improvements in infrastructure for horticulture, fruit growing and beekeeping.
