Agricultural Exports From Colombia Grew 50.9%

Government has repealed regulations dating back to 1935 on vegetable exports. However, even before the granting of the request, the group had already managed to bring forward a “shielding” period, to suspend debt collections. The Agriculture, Livestock, Food Supply and Rural Development Committee approved the evaluation of the rapporteur, Congressman Pezenti, on Bill No. 3558/2024. The proposal establishes criteria for the creation of new rural settlements, making them conditional on the verification of compliance with regular occupation and productivity indexes of existing settlements. From January to April of 2025, the State of São Paulo’s agribusiness sector saw a decline in exports and an increase in imports when compared to the same period in 2024. The sector’s trade balance reached US$ 6.72 billion, 15.3% lower than what was recorded in the first four months of 2024. “Even in the face of new scenarios in the global market, São Paulo’s agribusiness sector managed to maintain a significant surplus in its trade balance”, said the Secretary of Agriculture and Supply, Guilherme Piai. Starting on May 13th, the Tocantins Agricultural Technology Fair is expected to receive more than 200,000 visitors at the Mauro Mendanha Agricultural Technology Park in Palmas, State of Tocantins. State of Minas Gerais increased the area planted with cotton by 34% in the 2024/25 season. The State, the third largest producer of cotton in Brazil, is now facing the effects of the drought, which could compromise the yields of dryland crops. Brazil is expected to cultivate 2.14 million hectares and harvest 3.95 million tonnes, an increase of 6.8% when compared to the last harvest. (Abrapa)

Winter of 2025 will be marked by above-average temperatures and rainfall below expectations in much of Brazil. In the Central-West, the forecast indicates the beginning of the dry season, and temperatures should be between 1°C and 2°C above average. The soil is already showing moisture loss in the States of Mato Grosso, Goiás and the Federal District. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum has criticized the decision by the US to temporarily suspend imports of cattle, horses and bison from Mexico due to the presence of the screwworm fly (Cochliomyia hominivorax). Strong recovery in sesame production: exports increased 65% in volume and 37% in value in the 1Q25, compared to the same period in 2024.
