Soybean nutrition market has a turnover US$12 billion in the 2021/22 season

Legislative Assembly of the State of Mato Grosso do Sul approves Bill 138/2022, that changes the Law 2,951/2004, regarding the use, production, marketing and storage of pesticides. Validity of the registration at the State Agency for Animal and Plant Sanitary Defense is now of five years. Another change seeks to “guide on the recording of operations and inventories, in integrated databases or similar, integrated for electronic submission of information to Iagro”. Companies headquartered outside the state must provide information on the quantity sold in the state: technical recommendation, final destination, user, rural establishment and purchased product. The technician responsible for prescribing agronomic recipes must have a minimum of high school education and be incribed with the professional council. (Alems)

Mosaic will be the first company in Brazil to use big bags made from polypropylene, with post-consumer recycled content. In partnership with Zaraplast, leader in flexible packaging solutions, the company will use 30% post-consumer recycled resin in its packaging, made by Braskem, manufacturer of thermoplastic resins. Fertilizer prices increased 24% in September compared to the same period in 2021. KCl (potassium chloride) rose 61% and MAP (monammonium phosphate) rose 14%. NPK (formulated nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium) showed a 4% reduction in the average price. “The current average price of NPK still shows an increase of 117% compared to the same period of 2020. This scenario corroborates the increase in production costs and requires planning for assertive decision-making at all stages of the production cycle”, said the president of Aprosoja from the State of Mato Grosso do Sul, André Dobashi. Soybean nutrition market has a turnover US$12 billion in the 2021/22 season, compared to US$7.8 billion in the 2019/2020 season. “Even before the exchange rate devaluation of 27% between the two compared seasons, the market increased the cultivated area, number of treatments and adoption of correctives, seed treatment and inoculants”, says Giovanni Coser, a plant nutrition specialist at Kynetec. Soil fertilizers keep ahead of the market: more than 80% share, or approximately US$ 10 billion in sales. Soil correctives and conditioners and seed and foliar fertilization, including biostimulants and inoculants, account for 19% of the market, corresponding to US$ 2.3 billion. (Kynetec)

Fertilizer imports reach 27.9 million tonnes between January and September of 2022. Availability of fertilizers in the ports increased during the year and, consequently, traded volumes decreased between August and September. (Itaú BBA)

Production Cost Inflation Index in the State of Rio Grande do Sul falls for the fourth consecutive month. In September, retraction was 4.04% compared to August. Inflation Index of Prices Received by Farmers also showed deflation, reaching 1.63%. Fertilizer costs were once again responsible for the decrease in the IICP, showing a drop in all analyzed crops. “We cannot forget that in 2021 the index had accumulated inflation of 51.39%, so the fall in the index was expected at some point after so many highs accumulated in the past”, points out a report by Farsul’s Economic Advisory. Fertilizer multinationals, private equity and trading companies have acquired more than 50 local chemical dealers in the past four years, for more than US$1 billion. Dealers controlled by private equity or multinational companies are expected to earn more than US$ 7.5 billion in 2022, in 700 retail stores. Acquisitors include Nutrien, Syngenta, Lavoro, Acqua Capital and AgroGalaxy. Nutrien has acquired more than 39 retail stores and 10 distribution centers in 11 states and estimates additional sales of US$ 400 million, that would bring annual revenues in South America to US$ 2.2 billion. Among its most recent deals is the purchase of Casa do Adubo for more than US$ 200 million.
